Know & Avoid the Ten Financial Mistakes People Commonly Make

August 11, 2015

At times the turbulent waters of finances can be difficult to navigate. Doing it alone, with no help or guide, can be even more challenging. So here are ten of the most common financial mistakes people make and why you need to be mindful of them in your life.

Not Making or Keeping to a Budget

Having and sticking to a budget can do wonders for your financial stability. Some have compared a budget to a road map. Instead of wondering where your money goes each and every month and scratching your head about why you are 200 dollars short for the month, you can know what you need to spend and where it will go. Far too many people do not have a budget or cannot stick to the one they have.

Credit Card Payments

If you pay your credit cards on time and can pay them off each month that is great. If you cannot pay them off fully, you need to try and at least pay more than the minimal payments each month. Many people get into financial trouble because they do not pay their credit bills on time or miss payments all together, which can wreak havoc on your credit score and ruin your financial future.

Not Seeking Help

Money may be a topic most avoid, but there does come a time when you need to talk. When you are drowning in your debt and cannot keep treading water, it is time to call out for help. Unfortunately, many people do not look for help with debt consolidation and negotiating better loan terms until it is too late.

Not Knowing Your Credit Report

Having a bad credit score can also sink you financially. Many people do not check their credit reports to see what is there and are surprised at what is found when a bank or lender checks the report. Being informed about your financial standing will go a long way in helping you out.

Not Planning for Emergencies

No one likes to think about it and at times it can be next to impossible to save anything, but whenever you can you need to squirrel money away for emergencies. The car breaks down, someone needs to go the ER, or something else big happens, and you need to be as prepared as possible so it does not put you that much further behind financially.

Buying Out of Your Means

One of the top reasons people get into debt trouble is that they buy outside of their means. Whether it is a house, car, boat, RV, computer, entertainment system, or anything else, many people spend much more than they can actually afford. They get a loan that they struggle to pay back and end up buried under the debt.

Not Carefully Reading the Terms of a Loan

It is important to keep your finances organized and one of the best ways to do this is to review all of your statements and notices. When you apply for a loan or a line of credit, review everything carefully. Many times people get trapped in a loan with a huge interest rate attached to it and that can be enough to sink them.

Not Being Diverse With Investments

Money can make you more money when it is invested wisely but far too many people stick their money into just one account or investment. Whatever you choose- stocks, savings, CDs, or other investments, it usually is a good idea to divvy your money up between several different options. This can also protect you in case one investment goes sour.

No Plans for Retirement

Whatever your intentions are for retirement, you need to do what you can to save and plan ahead for that time of your life. Get a credit check regularly to know where you stand financially. Get a savings started for when you retire. It may be 40 years down the road, but the time to start planning for it is now.

Not Having Plans for the Family When You Are Gone

Getting a life insurance policy is one of the best things you can do to help protect your family’s financial security when you are gone. Humans do not like to think about death but it is something we need to try our best to plan for, if only for the sake of our family.

Three 3 Steps Concerning Divorce and Finances

August 8, 2015

It is a reality that couples disputing over money are the primary reason couples divorce. Its disappointing because there are ways to avoid these disagreements. Reducing the reasons for disputes increases the longevity of marriages. The persistent reasons for divorce over money are as follows:
Couples dont know their spouses money story
A spouse doesnt know where they are financially
Financial disloyaltyI describe the reasons couples divorce in the bullet points below:
Spouses’ dont know the money history of their partners: Whether we aware or not, all of us are a compilation of affirmative and challenging money experiences. Some money occasions are conscious and more stressful than others so acknowledge these moments. Others are unconscious and have subtle influence, so we are unaware that they are controlling our monetary choices unconsciously. The force of an individual operating subconsciously based on their money history is a sizeable situation but having two people performing from this position magnifies issues between couples. This situation creates most of the reasons couples divorce. Although it may feel uneasy, I constantly suggest that couples take time to discover and share their experiences about money from their childhood and their perception of money issues. Having this knowledge will help you see each others side and avoid detrimental
confrontations that can destroy your relationship.
Spouses dont know their financial position: Knowing your cash flow is an essential step of an enthused money management system and a smart financial foundation. Yet, when couples/individuals dont know their financial standing, this area becomes agitated and overpowering. At times individuals:
Purposely mask their finances are in a financial mess and confusion so realizing the whole financial state is an issue havent consciously agreed on their ambitions so they use their money in different directions that dont support what the relationship is to demonstrate/Below are three reasons that complications and confrontational energy happen in a financial discussion.
Financial disloyalty: Suppressing financial expenditures and activities from your spouse can hurt the faith they have in the relationship. First, verify if financial infidelity has happened in the relationship by asking how you might affect the position of financial legitimacy in your relationship. Second, heed to your spouses ideas regarding methods to boost your financial relationship. Finally, after youve examined your actions and received your spouses ideas, its time to build a financial plan of joint objectives that reflect your financial foundation. These three scenarios above can autonomously alter a couples aptitude for a frank financial dialogue. At times, all three situations can materialize building emotional flare-ups and confusion. This is when spouses’ get quiet entirely fearful to be open because their partner may not understand what their saying or it will more arguments.

If you and your spouse are in conflict over money, my advice is to search how you can connect respectfully in a discussion. Start with the plan to grow the financial area of your relationship. Join your spouse in a conversation actively listening to what they have to say about money.

The Importance of Mutual Fund With Respect to Financial Planning

August 7, 2015

Financial planning is the systematized process of meeting your financial objectives through appropriate investment avenues. Every investor harbours a different aim, in this regard. For some it is wealth creation for wealth’s sake, others aspire to buy a home (or several), whereas others wish to build their assets so that they may leave behind some financial security for their loved ones. However, to fulfil these dreams one must first analyse their current financial situations. Financial planning begins by looking at a person’s income, their savings and assets, their tax records, their expenses and debts, their appetite for taking financial risks and even their age, before laying down a tangible and realistic investment plan suited to these observations. Financial planning is ultimately the move one makes to take charge of their and their family’s long term financial security.

Mutual fund investments are relevant to financial planning as they are the epitome of all those financial products that allow us to achieve our financial goals. The ramifications of mutual fund investing, what they consist of and how they will contribute to our financial well being are pre-determined. Every fund has a different goal, which allows investors to invest only in those that will be advantageous to them. Equity mutual funds strengthen one’s finances in the long run, focusing on growth with short term risk. Thus, when engaged in planning your finances, try and figure out what your needs in the long term will be, taking into account old age, your children’s education, and inflationary prices and so on and so forth. Having calculated your potential requirements, invest in an appropriate equity mutual fund that, at the time of maturity will provide you with enough returns to meet your predicted needs. If they do not, then one can always reinvest the gathered returns.

This is a more convenient move than the painful process of building an equity portfolio in the stock market, one share after another. Mutual funds are highly beneficial in the process of planning your finances as they help you to focus your investments today based on your anticipated need for tomorrow in one swift move, rather than wasting your time with other more elaborate investment tools and duties that can be outsourced. For e.g., mutual fund investors are not required to have a keen knowledge of the market as executive decisions are all made by the fund manager.

The combined convenience of a mutual fund along with the experience of the manager as well as the lucrative nature of the medium itself results in a winning combination for anyone looking to invest with the view of long-term growth.
